Licensed Builders

Who Should Obtain the Permit

A homeowner may obtain a building permit for work to be done at his or her own home if the homeowner will be doing the work. No license is required. The permit holder is legally responsible for code compliance.

If you are having the work done by a builder or someone else, they should pull the permit and be a licensed contractor. Permit fees are the same regardless of who pulls the permit.

When you are seeking a contractor, be sure to ask to see his or her license, or ask for the license number and any applicable insurance documents.
